I just posted the table of contents for my new book, ActionScript 3.0 Game Programming University to the book’s Web site. There is both a summary and a detailed version which includes subheadings. The book is due out at the end of August.
This is my 12th book, and my 3rd specifically on Flash game programming. This is the first time I’ve done a whole Web site around a book. The site has a blog where I can answer reader questions, and a forum for the community. It will also soon have a podcast. I hope it evolves even beyond the book to become a community specifically for Flash game development.

Gary,
What is your opinion. To make games, would you rather do it in Director or in Flash?

Right now, I would rather do it in Flash, with ActionScript 3. It is very pleasant environment to build games with. The exception would be 3D, which isn’t possible in Flash. 3D games I would do in Director. Funny that there are a lot of similarities between AS3 and 3D Lingo.

Hello, I am previous reader of your flash mx game book. That book was a simple one without even a bit of physics, maths and trignometry. As a game developer you might also know the importance of realism in games. Is this book going to contain some really cool examples other than those nasty apple catch, and hangman type games. Those were really boring to read and make.

I disagree that there was no “physics, maths and trignometry” in the old books. It just wasn’t at a very high level. It wasn’t needed to teach the games. Plus, Flash 5 and 6 really wasn’t fast enough to handle much of that.
But you can’t please everyone. I’m sorry that you found the apple catch and hangman games boring — a lot of people used those games in their projects, so I’m glad I put them in the book.
You can easily see a detailed table of contents and also play the games in the new book by just going to http://flashgameu.com and clicking on the “About the Book” link. All the info is there.
