Macromedia Wins Second Round in Patent Suit
Macromedia claims that Adobe’s products infringed on Macromedia user interface patents. Here is the CNET article. I’ve always assumed that this suit was Macromedia’s answer to Adobe’s suit and that Macromedia would rather just have everything dropped. A quote from Rob Burgess, Macromedia CEO, seems to confirm this: “The score is now Adobe-1, Macromedia-1, customers-0”.

Adobe Wins First Round in Patent Suit
Abobe claims that Flash’s tabbed palettes violate their patent. Here is the CNET article. I’m guessing that there will be appeals and more to come. Some reports I have heard say that Adobe is trying to get Macromedia to pull Flash from the shelves. Other reports say that this only applies to Flash 5, since Flash MX doesn’t use the same type of tabbed palettes.

Shockwave Player Reaches 70% Penetration
Check out this new report from Macromedia. It claims that 69.9% of the people surfing the Internet can view Shockwave content. But which version of Shockwave do users have? Macromedia breaks it down here.

Flash MX is now available! You can buy it on the Macromedia site for $499 or $199 for an upgrade. The Flash 6 player is also available for download. Macromedia’s site seems overloaded right now so you might want to wait to try and buy it. I was able to get the player with no problem though.

A Flash 5 Player of the Casio PDA is now available for download here. As far as I know, this is the only Flash 5 PDA playback engine. All of the others are Flash 4. I don’t own a Cassiopeia, so I can’t test it myself. Let me know if you have tried it.
