WeatherBug Squashed

Apparently Macromedia has been listening to us. The WeatherBug application, which some people classify as spyware, has been removed from the Shockwave player installer. The Yahoo! toolbar is still there, as is the years-old “ad” for Shockwave.com. But at least things are taking a step in the right direction.

I, for one, understood that WeatherBug is no really spyware. But I know it’s early history has made some people still think of it that way. But I’m against any excess installation and/or advertising in the Shockwave installer.

No official word on why they removed WeatherBug. It could have been for some other reason. But I’d like to think it was because of community outcry.
