On Sept. 28, 2006 the latest version of the Windows Shockwave player appeared. It is version 10.1.4.020. Mac versions remain at 10.1.1.016. The strange thing is that no information exists about what has changed. In several mailing lists I am on, the call has gone out for information, but no word from Adobe. The absence of Tom Higgins is already being felt. The developer community is a little pissed off. Developers need to be kept in the loop on these things. There should be a “What changed in version 10.1.4.020″ document of some sort.
It is probably something that doesn’t matter, like a slight change to the Google Toolbar installed, which is Windows-only so that makes sense. But there have been some reports of the new install removing some Xtras from the Shockwave folder. Come on Adobe, you’ve got to keep developers in the loop on these things!

I agree with you that info on changes is necessary. The Director team has been particularly good at providing such Release Notes and Version History, and I’ve wished other product teams followed their lead.
This week, I’ve been hoping that someone on the Director product team would address this on the lists, but let me do some email once I get into the office, see if we can get some followup here….

I know that there’s been email among different workgroups inside Adobe on this… have any of them contacted you privately yet?

I do application packaging and have been waiting a long time for this version as it is available as an MSI install instead of InstallShield.
Perhaps this is the only difference?
