Flash Installer Now Also Includes Yahoo! Toolbar

The Yahoo! Toolbar has been included with the Shockwave installer for quite some time. The WeatherBug app has recently been added as well. This gave a lot of fuel to the argument that you should avoid Shockwave for professional work and stick with Flash. Well now that argument is gone as the Flash player also includes the Yahoo! Toolbar now. There’s some question as to whether the Yahoo! Toolbar comes with the automatic installation via IE’s ActiveX control, tho. If not, that means that most people won’t get the Toolbar with Flash like the do with Shockwave.

The Acrobat Reader download proces also has an option to download the Y! bar.

  2. Scott Fegette Says:

FYI, the Yahoo! Toolbar offer for Flash is only presented to Windows IE users who are forwarded directly to the Flash Player Download Center (Macintosh users/alternate browsers will not get the offer). ‘Silent’, background ActiveX Flash player updates are not subject to the Yahoo toolbar offer either.

These silent background ActiveX Flash player updates crash about 20% of the computers running Windows 95/98/ME.

    Thank You

And they don’t work at all on Win 3.1. ;-)

BTW, where did you get the 20% number/platform specifics on your comments from, Carl-Alexandre? I haven’t heard that percentage relayed before, so am mainly just curious as to your source.
