Flash 8 Xtra for Director Coming

A note today on Thomas Higgins’ Blog that gives us official word that the Director engineers are working on a Flash 8 Xtra update to Director and Shockwave. Obvious to most, but there are always a few people who think that because it wasn’t released immediately that Macromedia is ignoring it. Can’t wait to be able to use some of the new Flash 8 features in Director cast members.

How ’bout just releasing Director 10, 10.5 or 11 (or whatever number the next version would be). Here’s hoping that Director continues to be developed and updated.

  2. Casey Says:

I’m wondering if the xtra might be released separately as a segway between Director MX 2004 and the next version of Director. Isn’t Director usually announced sometime around Decemeber and then released a few months later? If this cycle holds true for this release, then Director might be the first Adobe release of a Macromedia product. The Flash 8 xtra might extend the shelf life of Director 2004 and give Adobe time to evaluate and make changes to a new version of Director(better 3d, working LDMs or Movie Clips, etc.). All this is speculaton, of course, and we could just see Director 11 - now with Flash 8 features!!! :)

    Thanks,

    Casey

I hope Macromedia hasnt given up on Director. I get the feeling that most developers have abandoned director for flash? Also Microsoft is in the process of developing an interaction designer called Expressions.
