Just got back from a preview showing of Serenity, the new film by Joss Whedon, an extension of his TV show Firefly. A lot of people, myself included, have been waiting anxiously for this movie. I loved the TV show and was thrilled to get to see the movie a month early.
And I can now say: Wow. I had high expectations for this movie and I am not disappointed. It was excellent. Whedon has really become a masterful director. I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone, so I will stop now. Anyway, here’s the movie Web site and aso one of the main fan sites.
Universal wants this to be the next big thing in sci-fi now that Star Wars and Star Trek are history. It just might be.

Allen Ellison, an active member of our Colorado Game Developers Association, has restarted the Colorado Flash Developer Group. Meetings a few years back were high on good ActionScript content. I hope to get to attend a few meetings soon.

An interview at Forbes.com is amazingly uninformative. They talked to both of these guys (separately, apparently) but didn’t really get any good information back. Nothing about the future of any of our tools. But then Forbes isn’t really about developers.

Noticed the annoucement at Director Online concerning the open source OpenAL Xtra this morning:
“OpenAL Xtra is a free, open source scripting Xtra for Macromedia Director that extends Lingo with the basic functions of OpenAL, a cross-platform 3D audio API. With the OpenAL Xtra, a Director developer can arrange sounds around a virtual listener in a simulated, three-dimensional space.”
Checking out their subsite at sourceforge, it got me thinking if there were any other open source projects involving Director. There are 12. An interesting collection too, including a < AHREF=http://sourceforge.net/projects/webcamxtra>Web cam controller and a chess bot.

I use Dreamweaver MX 2004 to maintain all my sites. I don’t think I have ever touched the WYSIWYG aspects of it, just the coding. I code raw HTML, JavaScript, CSS and PHP with it. It handles all of those well, and allows my to sync my local and server copies of the files easily. I can’t wait to see what improvements version 8 brings. But I did find a little info at Scott Fegette’s blog about the new CSS panel, and also the Coder’s Toolbar. I think I’m going to like it.
