Director Engineer Dan Sadowski has a new article up on Macromedia’s site about using the scriptExecutionStyle property. It is called Checking for New Features When Publishing for Shockwave 8.5 and is particularly useful if you are having trouble using older Lingo syntax while in Director MX 2004.

Here’s something I bet you didn’t know Director could do, in Shockwave no less: check your email. It turns out that the standard-issue Multiuser Xtra can access a POP email account. Check out Jame’s Newton’s article on Building an Email Client in Director.

Here’s another title developed in Shockwave 3D: Pow Pow’s Great Adventure. It is a 3D platformer. It is also a good example of how 3D games in Director have an advantage because they are cross-platform. I first saw a demo of this a few weeks back on the PC. But today I noticed it at the Apple site. My own experience with downloads from the Apple site is that they often outsell all PC download sites combined. Not sure why, but I have some theories. Anyway, I’m sure Outside the Box Software will see many more sales because they have both PC and Mac versions of the game. It is a fun game that is easy to play. Sort of a 3D platform game.

New article posted today about character encodings. It is an excellent starting point if you need to know how to incorporate non-English languages into your projects.
